– How to Cut Jerky for Use in Recipes –

When using jerky in recipes, there are two main ways of cutting the jerky, rough chop and shredded. When shredding you can either use a food processor, or a high-powered blender. Once you realize how versatile jerky can be in cooking, you just might find yourself adding it to all your favorite recipes! You can also chop your favorite flavors together for a more complex, flavorful mix. Add to salads, baked potatoes, eggs, and more!

Rough Chop Jerky

The most straightforward technique for cutting jerky is to rough chop it. Using a medium-large heavy-duty knife, simply chop the jerky. It is a little easier if you go along the grain of the meat, but it is not necessary. Keeping in mind that jerky is a dried meat with a rough texture, you will want to use a sturdy cutting board on top of a kitchen counter or picnic table.

Shredded in a Food Processor

This method is ideal for when you are running short on time. Place the desired amount of jerky in the food processor, and pulse for 30-60 seconds. This will result in shredded jerky that varies in size from small bites to flakes. Shredding jerky is perfect for salad toppings, and for a quick and easy meal.

Using a High-Powered Blender

If you do not have a food processor on hand, reach for your tried-and-true blender. Start by blending the jerky at a low setting, then dial up the speed until the desired consistency is reached. You can also chop the jerky into slightly smaller chunks before starting if your blender is a little older. Using a blender is the best method for achieving the most uniform sized jerky pieces.
